HUMAN Settlements director-general Itumeleng Kotsoane is in the firing line after parliament’s powerful standing committee on public Accounts (Scopa) yesterday accused him of misleading parliament.
This after Scopa paid a visit to the N2 Gateway Phase One in Langa yesterday, where about 100 residents have not been paying rent for over a year, accusing the government of delivering poorly built flats.
Kotsoane told an earlier Scopa meeting that defects in the flats had been repaired. These included cracked walls, loose doors, uncovered drains, damp, and peeling paint.
But Scopa chairperson Themba Godi told Sowetan that “Kotsoane had lied to Parliament”.
Speaking after the visit yesterday, Godi said the committee was “very unhappy and angry that once again, we have been given false information”.
Godi said the committee found “poor workmanship all round – exposed drains, and electrical and water pipes built in the same shaft”.
Scopa will next week ask Parliament to guide them on what sanction Kotsoane should face.

Where is Sath Moodley, special adviser to Lindiwe Sisulu and the N2 Gatway project? Low cost housing should never have been built like this!
